My name is Bridget and I am a teacher candidate from Northern BC. I have a background in social service work and working with children diagnosed with autism. I love working with kids and making connections. I have been volunteering with kids since I was 10 years old. I have a younger brother and a younger sister and many cousins. I have a huge extended family that has supported me in my journey of growth and learning.
I love cats, Disney movies, and chocolate. I love going camping and spending the day at the beach. I enjoy spending time in the water and relaxing at the pool. I am very organized and I like to make detailed plans. I have wanted to be a teacher for the last five years and I am excited to be making that dream a reality.
The beautiful land of Northern BC where I had the privilege to grow and learn! I grew up in a small town of around 5000 people and I enjoyed spending my time outside. I raised chickens in my backyard, planted my own garden, and swam in many lakes. I had the opportunity to learn in a hands on environment and I hope to bring a piece of that into my future classroom.
I love to travel and explore BC. I have enjoyed my years in the north but as a new teacher I am willing to travel and find a new place to call home. Currently I have been exploring the interior and enjoying places like Kelowna, Vancouver, and Nanaimo. The big cities are very different for me but I have learned and grown a lot in my explorations.
These photos are an example of an children’s event that I helped set up and run. I loved finding items to decorate the space and seeing those kids faces light up when they saw all the effort that we put into the space. I share this example to show how effort and creativity can transform a space into a new learning environment. I know this looks like a lot of money but it was all donated or collected materials. I love to put my extra time into creative projects that can amplify students learning.
These are my amazing pets! My cats name is Zander and my leopard gecko is called Khaleesi. These two help me find joy and comfort in my daily life. I love animals and I believe that children benefit greatly from interactions with animals of all shapes and sizes. One of my dreams is to bring a class pet into my future classroom to teach my students responsibility and empathy for all creatures.
