BC Curriculum

As a BC teacher I would like to share my thoughts on the BC Curriculum. Before my time in university I did not know much about the changes in the curriculum or the differences in in our curriculum from other provinces. I did know that the classrooms I helped in as a volunteer were safe spaces for students to learn about not only academic topics but social and emotional topics as well. I now know that this change is because of our new curriculum.

I hear a lot of critiques about the new curriculum and I willing to say that I believe there are still areas that we can learn from and improve, but our world is not an easy place to be and mental health problems are on the rise. I believe that this curriculum can help teach our students how to manage their emotions, communicate effectively, and solve conflicts. These are all skills that many of us have had to learn as adults and now we are making them a priority by adding core competencies to our curriculum.
