Certificates and Awards

In 2023 I graduated with Social Service Worker Diploma from the College of New Caledonia. This Diploma taught me about child development, societal systems, my own potential biases, and many other things that will help me connect with my students and support them through their educational journeys. This diploma taught me so much about myself and where I sit in the world, this helps me understand that each of my students bring a unique and valuable perspective into my classroom. Throughout my schooling I also learned about different types of neurological differences and diagnosis such as FASD, and autism.

I have my Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training certificate from the Crisis Prevention Institute. This training helps me with conflict de escalation and resolution in a classroom or one on one setting. This training focused on handling conflicts with children and coworkers. I learned about non confrontational body language and speech. I also learned about handling physical conflicts with children such as biting, hair pulling, grabbing clothes, hitting, and kicking.

I have completed my Occupational First Aid Level 1 through Work Safe BC. This course will help me physically care for the students in my care. In this class I learned how to physically assess a person for injuries and treat minor injuries. I also learned how to do child and adult CPR. I learned how to check a room for safety and triage injuries. I can use this training to keep kids safe in my class and on fieldtrips and to treat minor injuries if needed.

I completed this course by Harley Eagle titled Indigenous Cultural Safety. This course helped to increase my knowledge on cultural safety and on trauma informed care. This course focused on using trauma informed language and exploring the circle of courage.

CLBC_certificate

I took a class through CLBC which taught me how to handle private information and which information is protected and how. This is important because as a teacher I will have access to important confidential information about my students and their families. I want to protect this information and handle it with extreme care and delicacy.

RBT-certificate

The Autism Partnership Foundation gave me a certificate for 40 hours of training. This training helped me with my previous job as a social worker working with children who were diagnosed with autism. This training taught me a lot of behavior and children’s brain development.

In 2025 I attended the WestCAST education conference. I had the privilege of hearing Jillian Judson speak about imagination in education and how to use imagination to capture the attention of students.

I also attended sessions on inclusive education toolkits, mental health for teachers, fear of failure in students, how to create a warm environment, and literacy strategies by www.popey.ca

I completed the Responsible Adult Course. During this course I learned about child safety policies and how to protect children through policies and procedures. I learned about the creation of policies and the importance of consent. I understand the importance of permission slips and fieldtrip policies to keep children safe and protected in all environments.

Through Northern Health I completed the Respectful Relationships Culturally Safe Indigenous Health Care Course. This course taught me the history of Indigenous peoples with systems such as health care and education.

I completed a 7 module trauma informed care course offered by Alberta Health Services which taught me about trauma informed care. I learned that each child is carrying a story that we know nothing about. Teaching from a trauma informed lens means reframing “bad behavior” as communication and building those relationships with students to help understand their needs.

I completed a provincial Workplace Health and Safety Course that taught me about how to read safety labels and use cleaning products safely. This is a great resource for my future as a teacher because it will help me know what products are safe to use around kids and how to handle any accidental exposures.
