I presented this project in my Theoretical Frameworks of Education class. I studied Eastern Philosophies and looked at how we could use their frameworks to improve our educational practices. Eastern Philosophy focuses more on the collective and less on the individual. I learned that we use a lot of Eastern Philosophy ideas in our therapy. I introduced one to the class called “what I can control.” Everyone drew a circle on their page and in the middle of the circle they wrote all the things that they can control. Outside of the circle they wrote all the things that they cannot control. At the bottom of the page they wrote “I will not stress about the things I cannot control.”
This project reminded me that in my teaching practice I need to remember that my students come from all different walks of life and their view points might be different then mine.
Placed-Based-AssignmentThis document details a fieldtrip that I planned for grade 2 students at Lheidli Tenneh park. This fieldtrip includes many Indigenous aspects including connections to the land and the past. This document shows that I can plan a meaningful field trip and consider aspects of safety and environment.
Lets-start-a-Book-ClubHere is a proposal I created to start a book club in an elementary school. I believe in increasing literacy and helping children discover a love of reading. It takes exposures to multiple forms of literature for children to make connections and discover a love of stories.
Zoes-AnxietyThis is a story I wrote for my language and literacy class titled Zoe’s Anxiety. Writing this story taught me about the writing and editing process and the importance of teaching students how to write and edit their writing. I wrote this particular story because of my own experiences as a young student with anxiety. I believe that having social and emotional learning stories in my classroom will help my students learn the tools to manage the complex emotions that students deal with. These types of stories also help students to feel less alone in their struggles because they can see their experiences reflected in the stories.
